Chance The Rapper – “The Writer”

Do I really need to wax ecstatic why Chance is great? No, I didn’t think so. This one appears on THEMpeople’s Smoke Breaks IV.

Clean Bandit – “Rather Be” (Cash Cash & Valley Remix)

Cash Cash and Valley team up to remix Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”. There’s no remix I’d “rather be” listening to…except for maybe some of the other ones featured here. 🙂

Sebastian Carter – “Stranger Sights” (feat. Henry Green)

It’s not a strange sight to see Sebastian Carter being featured in our Singles Buffet. Know why? Because the guy always brings his ‘A’ game. Here, he teams up with Henry Green for the warm new track, “Stranger Sights”.

Monogem – “Wait And See”

One listener described Monogem’s single, “Wait and See” as a cross between Feist and Fever Ray. That’s a double shot of compliment juice. Yeah, compliment juice; that’s a real thing, you know? You don’t have to “Wait and See” if you like this song; just hear it and fall in love.

Lone – “2 is 8”

“2 Is 8” is taken from the upcoming new album from Matt Cutler, aka Lone, titled Reality Testing. Says Cutler about his fifth album: “I was listening to a lot of Detroit techno and old Chicago house that had the same grain and dirtiness to it as a lot of the hip-hop I was listening to. That was the real spark – I wanted to make an album that had both hip-hop and house beats, but that weren’t completely different from each other, that shared the same sort of vibe. I love the idea of two things sat side by side, but instead of it seeming like they’re complete opposites, [it’s more that] those two things could almost be the same thing.” Reality Testing arrives June 17th, but welcome yourself to a reality pop quiz via Lone’s latest track.

SZA – “Sweet November”

SZA’s voice is a treat any time of the year, even if this particular single is titled “Sweet November”. It’s jazz-like smooth sound is one you won’t forget come December.

Ghost Twins – “Breaking Friends”

Derby two-piece Ghost Twins have shared new single, “Breaking Friends”, taken from their forthcoming debut Never Fear Total Failure. Hmmm…with a name like that, it doesn’t leave much hope for society. The album’s music “represents personal struggle and the eventual hope we can eventually achieve through our darkest hours.” Indeed, “Breaking Friends” starts out menacing but lets light crack through in its final moments.

Tessela – “Gateway” (Jurassik’s More Beats Edit)

Jurassik takes Tessela’s “Gateway” and opens it up for more garage. This thing thumps and also has an arsenal of pew pew noises at its disposal. Get to listening and blasting through your speakers.

Oaktree – “Chapters”

Oaktree, aka Adriaan de Roover, is said to “find balance between the dancefloor and the living room”. What that means is you can chill to this music via your cheap pair of headphones or iPhone issued earbuds or show off your mad white-people dancing skills in the club, flailing your arms like one of those inflatable monsters you see in car lots. However you choose to get down is entirely up to you. Oaktree is sharing the title track to his new EP out this Record Store Day via PIAS.

Say Lou Lou – “Everything We Touch” (Yannis remix)

Yannis? Who the hell is this Yannis guy? It’s actually Yannis Philippakis‎ from Foals. You’ve heard of Foals, right? Maybe? Of course you have! Yannis gives the original an ’80s sci-fi vibe with growling bass and twinkling synths.

Pharmakos – “Only Child”

Pharmakos’ new single, “Only Child”, may sound like a lot of clanging metal. But there’s good reason for it. Pharmakos, aka Cole Garner Hill, recently stated: “I’m obsessed with movies – especially old stuff, horror, weirdo esoteric art films, and classic film actresses – and wanted to make my own version of “cinematic” music. Music that’s experimental and almost score-like, but aggressively distinct and slightly unhinged. Something that could turn on you in an instant. A sound that could be beautiful, unnerving and intriguing all in the span of one song, or hopefully even all at once.” So “Only Child” is unnerving, but it’s also intriguing, especially when the spoken word elements come in past the half-way mark.

#XI feat. Sundays – “Lovecraft”

#XI refer to their music as #normcore, which is a new fashion trend that you may not be aware of. In fact, I’d say many people inadvertently dress in the Normcore style: no brands, just regular clothes like sweatpants, button-ups, khakis, anything that screams “average joe”. So by all accounts, #XI’s music should be “average joe” music, but it’s experimental, interesting, and above average.
