Levek is the project of David Levesque, a musician associated with a “Mickey Mouse tribal sound” that comes from an obsession with Disney nostalgia. That nostalgia helps shape the debut album from Levek, Look A Little Closer, an album pushing Levesque’s creative boundaries and drawing inspiration from “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and ‘70s Blaxploitation. The first single that Levek has released from Look A Little Closer, “Black Mold Grow”, has shades of ‘70s funk and disco and sounds very Ariel Pink-ish, but Levesque instills Levek with a charming falsetto. Listen to the first Levek single, “Black Mold Grow”, below.
Levek on the new album:
“I had no idea what this album was when I began the process of the first few tracks. All I knew was a general sound I wanted to go for. I found a common ground lyrically and the album seemed to just take off by itself from there. The inspiration was just to make an album that I’ve always wanted someone else to make. Something that I would enjoy listening to.”
