Don't Blow Your Cover: Lia Ices - "Wish You Were Here" (Pink Floyd Cover)

'Don't Blow Your Cover' lets you determine whether a band breathes new life into an older, established song.

In this edition, Jagjaguwar's female Bon Iver, Lia Ices, covers Pink Floyd's classic song "Wish You Were Here".

The Original - "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd (1975)

Fun Facts:

  • The album Wish You Were Here was initially received with mixed reviews despite its current day standing as one of the best Pink Floyd albums. Pink Floyd members Richard Wright and David Gilmour have both said it was their favorite Pink Floyd album.

  • Much of the album deals with the mental decline of former Pink Floyd front-man and starting member, Syd Barrett.

  • Though it's the title track to the album and very well known and covered by several artists, "Wish You Were Here" was never a proper single from the album.

  • The Cover - as performed by Lia Ices

Lia Ices released her album Grown Unknown last year through Jagjaguwar to positive reviews. Read the Lia Ices - Grown Unknown Review. This cover of "Wish You Were Here" is the A-Side to an upcoming 7" being released on April 4th.

So what do you think? Does Lia Ices inject some much needed excitement into Pink Floyd's classic track, or does the original stand the test of time to this fresh upstart? Let us know what you think in the comments.

      1. She's one of the better indie female singers out there. She has a real unique style, so if you're liking this cover, I recommend you check out her last album, Grown Unknown.
