Reverend & the Makers – @Reverend_Makers Review

Reverend & the Makers

Shake your ass! Get amnesia! Shake your ass! Show me what you’re working with!

The End Records, 2012/2013

6.0 / 10

Reverend & the Makers don’t want your minds—they want your asses. @Reverend_Makers, their Twitter-titled third album that is just making its way Stateside, is about dancing and wanting to dance, so it makes sense that it is recklessly, phenomenally stupid. At the very least, the band hits the target they aim for, and that’s more than I can say for most albums.

But is that worth celebrating? @Reverend_Makers barely cracks half an hour despite its ten tracks, so there is very little time to process what the band is doing at any point (the phrase “drive-by dance party” comes to mind for some reason). ADD-addled listeners who want something that will make them dance will love this, but anyone else would do well to check out a song or two. It is effective dance music, but this album feels like a side dish rather than a main course.
